fourth and fifth day of Program Pendedahan Kerjaya Seorang Doktor

4th day

Yesterday morning we went to the A&E department. An medical assitant gave us some briefing about this depatment. This department was very big and it was divided into 3 zone...zon merah(krital), zon kuning(separa kritikal), zon hijau(non-kritikal). In the begining, zon merah have 1 patient only...this patient fainted because of hypotension. zon kuning and hijau have a few patients too. After that, the medical assitant took us in to the minor operation theater. There was another medical assitant stiching a man's head, but we were so unlucky, the minute we stepped into the minor OT, the stiching procedure had ended...haiii. The medical assitant incharge took us around the A&E department and at the same time explained to us the purpose and funtion of different rooms. After explainig, he gave us time to explore this department.

We went straight into the minor OT and we were lucky this time to observe a stiching procedure on an uncle's toes. This uncle met with an accident when he was ridding his motor. His toes was seriously injured...the flesh on his toes were like going to tear off...we can even see his METATARSALS!!!! I know its quite disgusting...2 of my group members went pale after seeing this procedure.

In the afternoon, my group went to the male medical department ward at Block D. These wards were crowded with patients of different sicknesses such as hypertension, diabetes, AIDS, H1N1, etc....In ward D4, there was a HDU room where coma patients have to depend on machine to respirate were placed. There was a patient whose heart suddenly fail to pump...all HO and MO rushed into this room to ressucitate that patient...after failing using CPR, the doctors uses a defibrillator and they succeeded this time. I was lucky to be inside and have the chance to observe the whole procedure.

At night, as i said before, i was on call at the A&E department again. More intresting patients came in during this time. So sad to see an uncle who suffered from cardiac arrest died on the spot when all the doctors failed to ressucitate him. Before i went back there was a baby ammited but its already 10 pm and mummy was waiting for me so i missed out that cases...but according to my friends they said that baby also died on the spot...haiii really sad to hear about it :'(

5th day

Today our program startted earlier then usual. After gathering at the PGMC we headed to the Forensic Department...its a really really long journey to this departmet. When people hear about forensic department...they will automatically know that what's in this department right????A supervisor gave us a short briefing about this department. Actually there's nothing much here... just DEAD BODIES!!!! so everyone should know how does a mortuary smells like right???

Firstly, the supervisor took us to a room where fresh dead bodies are placed. In this room, there a refrigerator where the baby corpses were placed. After explaining, the supervisor let us have a view of the dead bodies. There's a dead foetus on the trolley as well....so poor thing this small little foetus doesn't even have a chance to come into this world :'( Later on we went to the back where the big huge refrigerators for the adult corpses were placed. The supervisor even open the refrigerators for us to observe....DON'T EVER BREATH AT THIS SECTION!!!!! We saw a corpse who was burnt by fire...and another one was a suicide case. After that we were brought into the post-mortem rooms for MO and specialist respectively.

This program ended with a taklimat by Dr. Izam. That's what the whole program is about.
